Dana White rates Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva as his favourites – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White gave his opinion on UFC fighters. According to White, Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre are the best fighters in the organisation today, overlooking light heavyweight champion Jon Jones completely.
White compared all three, saying that GSP and Silva have maintained their fights for years while Jones still has a lot to do.
“[Georges St. Pierre] is my number two. Jon Jones is getting there. Jon Jones proved a lot — to a lot of people — in that fight (against Vitor Belfort). Staying in that armbar, popping out of it like he wasn’t even in an armbar, continuing to fight the way
that he did, kept himself together mentally,” said White.
“He came a long way. My thing is, I don’t ever give Jon Jones the huge … these other guys, Anderson Silva’s been doing it since 2005 in the UFC, Georges St. Pierre’s been doing it forever,” he added.
White further said that Jon Jones has been going through a rough patch recently but he is doing good. According to White, if Jones keeps the same pace, he will definitely reach the number one spot. However, the president does admit the fact that many fighters
have shown great potential but they went down with age. White asserts that the same could happen with Jones as well.
White and Jon Jones stand on the opposite sides following UFC 151’s cancellation. White wanted Jones to fight against Chael Sonnen after Dan Henderson backed out with his engagement against the light heavyweight champion. According to White, Henderson’s
injury caused him to back out. White wanted to save the card by adding Sonnen to the show but Jones refused to change opponents just eight days prior to the show.
For now, White is hopeful that Jones will make it to the mark and he will probably stand among the best fighters in the world. While White is not rating Jones as the best, most analysts already believe the light heavyweight titlist holds the number one spot,
especially after his recent victory over Vitor Belfort.
