Dana White regrets creating Chris Leben vs. Derek Brunson on PPV – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has expressed his dismay over putting Chris Leben vs. Derek Brunson on the main card of UFC 155. The fight was a disaster and White finally realised it. It was the opening of the show and White realised
that the fight did not live up to the hype.
“I love Chris Leben personally and professionally, you know, he's a great kid. You know, I think tonight for the pay-per-view, I think I made a mistake putting him on the pay-per-view I should have had him on the undercard,” said White while speaking about
the event.
Even though the card was surprising very thrilling, the opening fight created boredom which marred the card’s entertaining ability. White was not wrong when he expected Leben to grace the card, since the fighter is known for his entertaining abilities. However,
the outcome was not as good as White expected.
“He's been off with personal problems for a while, has had a lot of time off, you know, and he looked slow tonight. I wasn't crazy about that fight, that wasn't my favorite fight of the night that's for d**n sure,” said White for Leben.
Leben had not fought since November 2011, as he was suspended. White did not think the dormant period would affect Leben but it seemed like it did.
“There's no doubt about it Chris Leben loves to fight. There's no doubt about that. You know, the biggest, the biggest challenge in Chris Leben's life is battling his demons, you know?” White added while trying to justify the scenario.”
White added that the UFC has tried to help Leben as much possible and that he loves ‘the kid’. For White, Leben is not over yet, despite his dull performance. White believes the kid will make a comeback soon and will prove his mettle against the best.
For now, White takes the blame of putting such a fight on the main card, saying he blew it up. White knows Leben will make it up soon but right now the President believes the kid needs some time out.
