Dana White reveals Matt Mitrione turned down fight against Daniel Cormier – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White has revealed that Matt Mitrione declined an offer to fight Daniel Cormier. He added that the fight was initially planned between Daniel Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. However,
due to an injury, Mir had to step out and Matt was brought in as his replacement.
Once again, White was shocked to learn that Matt was not interested in fighting Cormier in Strikeforce’s next show.
“It f---ing makes me sick,” said White in an interview to MMAJunkie.com. “Listen, you don't want big opportunities, I hear you. I get it, then. All I can say is, I guess he doesn't want big opportunities. I get it. Duly noted.”
“He wants to fight a guy who weighs 205, but doesn't want to fight the guy who's the real heavyweight, the legitimate guy who's ranked. And Mitrione's not getting any younger,” he added.
White was furious over the way things have been happening lately in the UFC. Most fighters are turning down fights, and the remaining ones are backing out due to injuries.
“F---in' insane. It makes no sense to me, and it's insane. I'm a little bummed out by it. We'll figure it out. Yeah, (he's already got a fight booked). He said, 'I'll just take that one,’” added the angry President who believes he has had it enough.
White then went on admiring Cormier, saying that he is a real fighter and he would fight anybody, regardless of his size and abilities.
For now, White is looking for another fighter to replace Frank Mir.
This is the second time it is happening with White, who recently had to cancel UFC 151 event when Jon Jones declined the idea of fighting Chael Sonnen who was replacing Dan Henderson.
White is now being careful as he does not want another event to be cancelled. In his eleven-year-career, it was the first time he had to cancel an event when Jones said he would not change his opponent just eight days prior to the show. Sure, White is now
more careful and would never risk the health of another event for replacements.
