Dana White shrugs down the notion of 115-pound division in UFC – UFC News
Last month, Dana White spoke about including a 115-pound division in UFC, which made many analysts and fans surprise, considering the lack of talent that is there in the sport. This week, White came up explaining his vision, trying to convince fans that
it will be a positive inclusion for UFC.
In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, White said, “It'll happen. I don't know (how soon). "(But) we're going into Asia, Mexico, going into South America – and traditionally, they're all smaller guys,” said White.
White even spoke about UFC’s divisional expansion. He spoke about the organisation holding its first event in China this year.
“Our first event in China is going to be in November, and you know how it happens after we put on an event – it explodes and people start training. India, too. You're going to see talent in those lighter-weight divisions,” said White.
White then came back to the topic, claiming that whenever the 115-pound division happens, it is going to be as nasty as 155 and 170. According to White, there is a lot of talent for the 125-pound division. Finally, the president of UFC claimed that people
will see a lot of Hispanic and Asian fighters coming to the show once the division is introduced.
For now, Dana White is considering making divisional changes and expansion of the organisation in order to reduce the monotony that has been created in some divisions. For instance, the middleweight division and the light heavyweight divisions are dominated
by Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. Both champions are indestructible, which is hurting the divisions since fans are no longer interested in watching them prolong their tenure.
Probably, this is the reason why Dana White wants to bring more variety to the sport. While Jones and Silva can continue with their reign, White wants fans to be entertained with other divisions. In addition, there are rumours of White planning a showdown
between Jones and Silva to spice things up a bit. However, Jones has already thumbed down the notion.
Jones has declined the idea of fighting Anderson Silva time and again, believing it is not a showdown meant for him.
