Dana White shrugs off possibility of Nick Diaz vs. Anderson Silva – UFC News
UFC President Dana White has thumbed down the possibility of a match between Nick Diaz and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. White made it clear that the entire scenario ‘does not make sense to him’.
“I can tell you this, not theoretically – Diaz/Anderson is not going to happen. That's just ridiculous,” said White in an interview to MMAJunkie.com
Earlier this week, Cesar Gracie, trainer for Diaz, announced that he would make an official request to Dana White to arrange a match between his fighter and Anderson Silva. Although Diaz is suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for using marijuana,
Gracie wanted White to take the match to another country where the NSAC jurisdictions do not apply.
“[Gracie] would have a better chance of convincing me, I don't know, to get hair plugs. Nick Diaz makes no sense,” said White.
He added, “I know that sounds fun. Yeah! Throw Nick Diaz in there! If you really look at the thing, Nick Diaz just lost to Condit at 170, so that gives him the opportunity to move up to 185 and fight the pound-for-pound best in the world? In what [expletive]
universe does that make sense?”
Nick Diaz currently stands with 26 wins and 8 losses in MMA and 7 wins and 5 losses in UFC. On the other hand, Anderson Silva stands with 32 wins and 4 losses in MMA and 14 wins and 0 losses in UFC.
Nick Diaz was hoping to make his ring return against Silva this year. However, after White’s announcement, it seems like the MMA fighter will have to fight the contenders first to get to the champion.
White believes a fight between Silva and Georges St-Pierre would make more sense than a fight between Diaz and Silva.
“If you were really going to make a fight like that, it would make more sense with Georges St-Pierre than it would be Diaz,” said White.
For now, Diaz dreams of getting a title shot on his comeback have been shattered. Truly, the demand does not make sense but considering Gracie’s confidence in his fighter, fans were wondering as to what Diaz will bring to the ring this time.
