Dana White suggest Lombard to move to welterweight – UFC News
After being beaten by Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, Hector Lombard’s middleweight career is in jeopardy. Following his defeat at UFC 149, Dana White, President of UFC, has called for Lombard to move to the welterweight division.
While talking about the fight that ended Lombard’s 25-fight win streak, White stated, “It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Whether it was Boetsch or Lombard winning, I was expecting a real war. I thought this thing was going to be a war.”
“You can't be angry with [Lombard], but it just shows you guys, ranking guys who don't fight in the UFC, it's two different worlds. Guys that fight in other organisations that end up in top 10 rankings, it's a whole other world over here.”
“Lombard maybe should fight at 170. He made 185 easily. He's short and wide, but I think he could make 170.”
For now, Dana White is not really impressed with Lombard’s performance. Although it was his first ever defeat, White believes Lombard showed lack of dedication to the sport. Questions were already being raised over the quality of opponents Lombard has faced
to date. Now, after losing to Tim, it is evident that Lombard cannot do much at the division.
On the other hand, White is highly impressed with underdog Tim Boetsch’s performance. Since Tim does not boast a high-profile portfolio in the sport, he was being deemed as the underdog but somehow he managed to make it to the mark. Tim now has the badge
of being the first one to end Lombard’s undefeated streak.
In another interview, Dana White has already hinted towards offering a title shot to Tim, despite the fact that most analysts are against it. According to White, the sport needs someone who is dedicated and is not just another generic material. White believes
Tim has what it takes to give a tough fight, unlike Lombard.
As of now, Boetsch is preparing for his next opponent, without knowing who he will be. He claims he will be ready for whoever comes his way, whether he is the champion or not.
