Dana White talks about Hector Lombard’s defeat at UFC 149 – UFC News
Hector Lombard’s 25-win unbeaten streak was ended at UFC 149, at the hands of Tim Boetsch via split decision loss. The other two fighters who entered the event with unbeaten streaks were Ryan Jimmo and Renan Barao, and they both kept their streaks intact.
Hector Lombard’s defeat was not taken lightly by UFC President Dana White. Since Hector had created enormous hype for his fight, his loss was considered a huge negative for the sport.
“It's the unfortunate thing about hype. When there's a lot of hype behind you and you don't live up to the hype, it goes away real quick,” said White while talking about Hector’s loss.
“This is one of those things; the guy was on a 25-fight win streak, a lot of people were high on him, people have been talking about him forever. Guys that fight in other organizations end up in top ten rankings, and it's a whole other world over here,”
he added.
When asked about Hector’s fight, White replied, “It wasn't the fight I was expecting. It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Whether it was Boetsch or Lombard winning, I was expecting a real war. I thought this thing was going to be a war.”
Not just White, a lot of other fans and fellow fighters were disappointed with the match. It was one of the main highlights of the card yet it could not live up to the hype.
As White puts it, it was not about who would win but more about an epic match that could be a memorable one. With all the hype surrounding the fight, fans were expecting more of a war than just a conventional ‘win or lose’ UFC fight. However, it seems like
Lombard decided to end his unbeaten streak rather easily than most of the analysts were thinking.
Hector gave in too quickly and instead of fighting back, the way he usually does, he tried defending himself throughout the fight. Probably, it was not his day to make a move, and whenever he went ahead, he faced severe thrashing from his opponent.
