Dana White thinks Wanderlei Silva should leave the sport – UFC News
The Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, Wanderlei Silva, annihilated his opponent Cung Le at UFC 139. The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 was nothing short of a spectacular
event, which gave Silva the fuel to extend his MMA and UFC career for a few more years.
The fight was something that shook the MMA fans and would be discussed for ages. For Silva, the UFC 139 bout was a must-win event as he had to win it to secure his run in the UFC. He was on a losing run in the UFC since 2007. He
lost to Chuck Kiddell at UFC 79 in December 2007. A year later in December 2008, he lost to Quinton Jackson at UFC 92 and in June 2009, Rich Frankiln defeated him at UFC 99. He had a successful middleweight debut in the UFC at UFC 110 in February 2010 but
his win was followed by a loss to Chris Leben in July 2011 at UFC 132.
In 2011, Silva, nicknamed The Axe Murderer, was in the spotlight as a fighter who has the capacity to earn victories going downward with his loses. After the UFC 139 event, which was held in San Jose, California, Dana White, the
President of UFC expressed his thoughts for Wanderlei Silva. White had the view that Silva should retire rather than keep fighting.
White’s cause for concern came after Silva went into battle with Le in a gruesome slugfest that took a toll on both the fighters. It was more than just a fight. It was a statement made by both the fighters signifying that they
will keep on fighting until the end.
Dana has been saying this for a long time that he will not feel shocked if Silva decides to retire. The losing run of Silva was the reason why White thinks it is time that the Brazilian should leave the MMA for good. According
to White, it would be a sensible decision for Silva to retire than to keep on fighting. White will not impose his decision on Silva but the President thinks Silva should not torture himself more in the ring.
