Dana White thumbs down notion of Donald Cerrone vs. Anthony Pettis – UFC News
Earlier this week there were rumours suggesting a possible showdown between Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis at UFC on Fox 5 this December. However, President of UFC Dana White has squashed the rumours, saying no such showdown has been scheduled.
“So (expletive) far from being the truth,” said White in an interview with MMAjunkie.com
White, who is already going through a tough time regarding UFC’s recent results, believes such rumours can only damage the sport.
Donald Cerrone currently holds 19 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie in his portfolio. On the other hand, Anthony Pettis holds 15 wins and 2 losses in his portfolio. Both fighters were recently involved in a war of words in the recent weeks.
It should be noted here that Donald Cerrone holds a stronger position in the 155-division following his victory over Melvin Guillard. On the other hand, Pettis is recovering from a grave shoulder injury and has revealed he might make a comeback to the sport
later this year.
Nevertheless, Pettis, who might want to join the UFC on Fox 5 card, may be disappointed to know that the president has already stacked the card with a number of main fights. The card will have Ben Henderson defend his lightweight title against Nate Diaz
as the headliner. Moreover, Mauricio Rua will face Alexander Gustafsson in the co-main event. Lastly, BJ Penn will take on Rory MacDonald in a featured bout.
Considering the fact that the card is already overloaded, chances of Pettis being a part of it are rare. Moreover, since Pettis is not yet the lead in the division, White will not take any chances for him, especially after being disappointed with UFC’s recent
numbers.
Earlier this week, White revealed that the organization is trying hard to bring better shows to fans. In his quest to increase the pay-per-view proceedings of UFC’s events, White has lined up three epic bouts for UFC on Fox 5. It seems like the president
will not be adding any other to the card, especially if it is for Pettis. Fans might not be as interested in watching Pettis fight and therefore White will not go the mile for him.
