Dana White uncertain whether Hendricks vs. Kampmann would decide number one contender – UFC News
President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is not sure if the bout between Johny Hendricks and Martin Kampmann would decide the number contender for a welterweight title shot. Previously, the UFC announced that the match would indeed be for
the number one contender title but now White seems reluctant about it.
Kampmann, who currently stands with 20 wins and 5 losses in MMA, and 11 wins and 4 losses in the UFC, will take on Johny Hendricks, who stands with 13 wins and 1 loss in MMA and 8 wins and 1 loss in the UFC< at UFC 154 in a co-headliner out.
According to MMAJunkie.com, Dana White is keener on moving forward with the idea of UFC’s first super-fight between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre.
Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will make his comeback after around eighteen months to fight against interim champion Carlos Condit in the headline bout of UFC 154.
“I have no idea," he said. "I have no idea. We have to see how this thing plays out,” said White when asked about if the fight between Hendricks and Kampmann would take the winner any closer to a title shot at welterweight.
“Like I tell everybody, people are asking me, 'Is the Anderson Silva fight happening next?' Well, [St-Pierre] needs to beat Carlos Condit first. And like I said earlier, people are overlooking Carlos Condit, and that's a bad idea,” he added.
Right now, White is spending most of his time talking about super-fights within the UFC. The two major bouts he is looking forward to organise include a showdown between Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva and a catch weight fight between Anderson Silva
and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
“Carlos Condit ... will defend the title against who's next (if he beats St-Pierre),” said White when asked if Condit can replace GSP in the super-fight against Silva, if the interim champion wins.
In other words, the main focus for White is to re-establish Georges St-Pierre as the number one fighter in order to put him against Anderson Silva, who is undoubtedly the number one mixed martial artist today.
