Dana White’s approval to TRT can make things worse – UFC Special
As always, UFC President Dana White has made yet another controversial remark. While talking about the current hot issue of Testosterone Replacement Therapy, White claimed that he is ‘okay’ with the usage of TRT, considering fighters do not overdo it.
White’s comments have come in at a crucial moment, just when most fighters, analysts and former fighters have been demanding a ban on the usage of Testosterone Replacement Therapy. Surprisingly, White made it clear that the juice is good enough, as it makes
fighters go beyond their normal capacity.
“Here’s the thing about TRT. It’s absolutely 100% legal. As sports medicine continues to advance, this is one of those things where every guy’s testosterone level starts to drop as they get older and this is basically sports science now where they can bring
it back up to a normal level,” explained White in a very calm manner.
“And I think it’s great, it’s absolutely fair, it’s legal .The problem is, there are guys who say if this much is good, this much must be great, so you have guys who are always trying to do more than they’re supposed to do. The big job is policing it, making
sure that it’s not being abused, that guys are using it the way it’s supposed to be used,” he added.
Touching such a controversial issue with such a soft blow is something only a smart man like Dana White can do. White previously has been very active against performance enhancing drugs and Testosterone Replacement Therapy but now it seems like he has switched
his stance.
On White’s comments, no one else but Roy Nelson, who is known for standing poles apart from the President on most his decisions, came up saying, “The Juice is good, Dana White says so as long as you don’t over do it… Now I know why Overeem is OK NOW! I
feel like some OJ.”
Not only Roy, a couple of other members expressed their dismay too on White’s stance.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy is considered a damaging way of enhancing a fighter’s performance. According to most analysts, the juice pushes a fighter beyond his limit while fighting, which has negative effects on his brain and of course his body.
In the last two years, some of UFC’s top-notch fighters have been banned for using performance enhancing drugs or Testosterone Replacement Therapy. Probably, this is the reason why White finally wants to promote such stuff, believing that it might help commissions
to keep a loose hand on fighters.
As of now, White is currently looking forward to the return of Alistair Overeem, Dutch mixed martial artist, who was banned from the sport after he failed a drug test. Overeem was scheduled to face UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos but due to the
failed drug test, the fight was cancelled.
Overeem’s suspension period will end in December this year, and White is hoping to schedule a fight between Santos and Overeem. According to White, Santos is not happy with Overeem’s humiliating comments against him, which is the major reason why the heavyweight
wants to go head to head with him soon.
Dana White heads the Ultimate Fighting Championship and he is considered to be among the smartest businessmen who are running sports shows. He sets up fights that are thrilling for the fans to watch and so his words echo in every country of the world where
mixed martial arts has transformed into a proper form of sport.
