Dana White’s obnoxious decision of Jon Jones’ possible opponent – UFC News
President of UFC Dana White is known for his shrewdness. He plays smart and always finds a way out to make the next UFC events grander. However, this time it seems like White has made a blunder in announcing a possible opponent for UFC light heavyweight
champion Jon Jones.
During a conference call on Monday, White came up saying that the winner of UFC of Fox 4 main event will be the man getting the title shot. The main event will be held between Mauricio Rua and Brandon Vera. Both fighters have previously lost to Jones, which
made this decision cockeyed.
“When the fans speak, we listen,” said White. He added, “So whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited by going out there on Saturday and looking the most impressive, he will get the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. It is down to what these
four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn't enough, they've got to win impressively. Any one of these four fighters can take things into their own hands and make a title shot happen.”
Jones defeated Rua within 3 minutes of their encounter at UFC 128. Rua lost the title to Jones with an under par performance. Following his loss to Jones in a one-sided battle, Rua faced Forrest Griffin and Henderson. He defeated Griffin but lost to Henderson.
Therefore, he currently stands with 1 loss and 1 win after his loss to Jones.
Speaking about the title shot, Rua said, “I want the winner of Jones vs. Henderson. The fight I had with Henderson was a great fight, the fight of the year, and it was a very close fight. I am OK with that. It was a great fight.”
On the other hand, Vera is a confident fighter who might not be as good as Rua but he is sure-footed to go one on one against Jon Jones, probably the most dangerous fighter in UFC today.
White’s decision for announcing Jones’ opponent was widely criticized, as fans were hoping for a surprise opponent that would be an equal to Jones.
