Dana white: The man who proves his worth will be eligible for light heavyweight title shot – UFC News
UFC President Dana White has said that the upcoming bout between Brandon Vera and Mauricio Rua will not be a title-eliminator one.
He added that whoever out of the four (Vera, Rua, Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader) performs best, will take on Jon Jones-Dan Henderson winner.
White, while explaining the scenario, was of the view that after receiving a significant bashing regarding his awkward announcement of declaring Rua-Vera bout a ticket to the big gun Jon Jones, current light heavyweight champion, the UFC think tank has decided
to strip the title-eliminator label off the Vera-Rua bout.
Instead what Dana now plans is to keep the clause active but in a unique fashion that is the man who wins over his opponent in an intimidating way so much so that even fans love it, that particular individual will move forward to challenge Jones title reign.
The stipulation is now applicable to four men Brandon Vera, Mauricio Rua, Lyoto Machida, and Ryan Bader. Vera and Rua are scheduled to headline the UFC on Fox 4 pay-per-view whereas Machida-Bader will co-headline the fight card.
The scenario has become interesting altogether and will certainly make both fights an explosive showdown. White, during the media interaction, stated, “When the fans speak, we listen. So whoever scores the best win, whoever gets the fans excited by going
out there on Saturday and looking the most impressive, he will get the winner of (Jon) Jones versus (Dan) Henderson.”
Dana sealed the fact that the winner must need to do something more than just win. White stated, “It is down to what these four guys do Saturday night in the Octagon. Winning isn’t enough.”
Interestingly, all four men have collided with Jon Jones and this will be the second time for any one of them to test his luck again against the Bones Jones. Previously, Dana’s decision of denoting the Vera-Rua bout irked in fact fired up the UFC universe
as the duo did not exhibit any kind of significant A-game in their last bouts that would have placed them in a number one contender seat.
With the current exciting decision, the stakes have raised substantially as now all four men will try their level best to somewhat prove that they are eligible for the number one contender spot and it will definitely require something more than just a win.
The pay-per-view will be televised live on Fox TV on August 4, 2012 from Staples Center, in Los Angeles, United States.
