Danae Okulicz and Robert Gerlach dominate at Arafura Games 2011: Day 2 Finals - 15 to 16yrs Category
The morning session of day two of the 2011 Arafura Games witnessed dominating swims from Danae Okulicz and Robert Gerlach in the 15 to 16yrs age group swimmers in their heats on May 9. The session concluded with the preliminary rounds of the 50m freestyle and the 100m breast-stroke for the Boy’s and Girl’s of the 15 to 16yrs age group.
The session initiated with the Girl’s 50m freestyle, where West Australia’s Danae Okulicz occupied the fastest qualification spot by finishing in a time of 28.06 seconds. Philippines-AK’s Hannah Dato was only 0.90 seconds behind Okulicz and came in with a timing of 28.96 seconds. They were followed by WA-sp’s Renee Black, who concluded in 29.00 seconds for the third fastest qualification.
Moments later, Robert Gerlach of Queensland appeared as the fastest swimmer to enter the final of the Boy’s 50m freestyle, posting a time of 25.29 seconds. NT’s Jacob Netherway secured second fastest qualification into the final, clocking a time of 25.80 seconds. They were followed by Netherway team member, Benjamin Fuller, who reached home for third fastest qualification in a time of 25.96 seconds.
Next was the Girl’s 100m breast-stroke, where Reene Black of WA-sp proved her eligibility for the fastest qualification spot by clocking a time of 1:26.15 minutes. Her timing was only 0.92 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, West Australia’s Caitlyn James, who surfaced as the second fastest swimmer in 1:27.02 minutes. Black’s team member, Abbey Starling followed them into the final as the third fastest swimmer, posting a time of 1:28.84 minutes respectively.
The last event of the session was Boy’s 100m breast-stroke, where the Queensland’s Mark Ragel earned the fastest qualification spot, touching the wall in a time of 1:11.52 minutes. He was followed by New Zealand’s Archer Roelants and Queensland’s Robert Gerlach, who secured second and third fastest qualification spot, with a timing of 1:18.25 and 1:21.04 minutes respectively.
The championship will conclude on May 11, 2011 after conducting all swimming events. In addition, these swimmers will face each other in today’ finals of their respective events, where the winners will earn awards and accolades.
