Danai Udomchoke halts Rik de Voest in the opening round – Seoul Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 153rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Danai Udomchoke, got the better of the South African contender, Rik de Voest, in first round of the Samsung Security Cup Challenger 2012 on Tuesday.
The Thai professional consolidated his remarkable win in three sets 0-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 at the hard courts of Deco Turf in Seoul, Korea.
The two contests have encountered each other six times since they started their tennis careers. The Thai avenged his former loss in a total of two hours and 24 minutes at the hands of Voest at the Nottingam-2 Challenger 2012, Britain.
The 32-year-old, Voest, held his serve in the initial set and beautifully executed his lead throughout. He confidently held his serve the entire time and did not give his rival a single chance to dominate him. He dusted away Udomchoke
every time he struggled to take over and surprisingly terminated the opener with a bagel.
For the first part of the second set, the right-hander Thai professional face a tough time. He was unable to hold his initial serve in and the South African senior took hold of the opportunity to mark a 2-0 lead. As the game progressed,
Voest started to build momentum in is serves the score line repeated evened out after every game. Until the end, the two competitors held their serves and gave each a tough deal. However, the Thai professional nudged forward and secured his lead with a 7-6(3)
after fighting a close set tiebreaker round.
In the deciding set, none of the participants were able to hold their initial serves and but the 31-year-old, Udomchoke, took the lead by dissolving his serve in the fourth game. He preserved his lead throughout and did not let
the opportunity slip away even once. The South African native completely lost his optimism and stopped responding. The higher ranked Thai professional stole the lime light by closing the final set with a 6-3 score line.
The world number 153, double faulted three times at the critical moments in the match and secured an average initial serve of 54 percent. He converted 36 of 55 points. In comparison to that, Voest thundered his contestant with
five aces and had a better initial serve accuracy of 63 percent.
