Dance The Rain to waltz in the PHS Direct Handicap at Haydock
Haydock will host the Class 4 PHS Direct Handicap over a mile on Friday, 25th May. The line-up of the race comprises of nine three-year-old runners and the prize money set for the winner is £4,075.
The most accomplished entry for the race is Dance The Rain, Rock Of Gibraltar’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Antediluvian.
She shot into the new season on 19th April in the Ripon “c**k O’ North” Handicap at Ripon over a mile. The race was won by the 5/2 favourite, Hajras and led Dance The Rain by just half a length.
Coming at terms with the third position was Satanic Beat.
Her very next attempt of the new season was on 12th May in the Pertemps Handicap at Haydock over a mile. This time again Dance The Rain settled as the runner up but was adrift by a narrower margin than the race she took part in before.
Trail Blaze, the winner, was riding with Michael Hills as the 11/4 favourite of the race, Mr Spiggott, ended third on the line-up of seven.
The last time that the three-year-old won was in her seasonal debut and today is pointed for her third outing of the season a straight second time at Haydock. Her ability to score a second position there speaks of her potential to claim the race there.
An entry who can prove out to be threatening for Dance The Rain is Basseterre, Cape Cross’ three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Higher Love. He was successful in his seasonal debut on 21st January at Lingfield in the Marsh Green Maiden Stakes
over a mile.
He was riding with Michael Hills and led the runner up of the race, Scatter Dice, by a length. Cape Savannah raced in third behind the winner.
His right next race was an unfortunate loss but he composed himself by the time of the third outing of the career.
After finishing seventh in the Skybet.Com Handicap on 23rd April, he hopped on to the second position in the Kempton For Outdoor Events Handicap on 15th May at Kempton over a mile. The race was won by Curzon Line while the 4/1 favourite
of the race, Main Line, ended fourth.
