  1. yeah, look at colleges on the east coast because they have very serious ones and lots of them has dance as a major, but west  coast wont have so many if you search google for dance colleges

  2. yes there are im a dancer not college age yet but have the same situation cuz im so dedicated. anyway, there is dance college studio, and many colleges have dance programs, if you want to have an academic and dance major try a performing arts school. a great website to find these schools is edsoup.com here's the link to find the dance colleges; http://www.edsoup.com/page/students.how-...

  3. There are many, many, many colleges where you can major in dance all across the U.S. and beyond. The Dance Magazine College Guide lists almost all of them, so be sure to get hold of the print version and start reading up on your options:

In general, if dance is the main thing you want to do after college, then you should look for a program that offers a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree where your dance training comprises at least 60% or more of your curriculum. If you wish to combine your interest in dance with other disciplines, then a BA or BS (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science) degree is fine. You will need to examine all of the programs (even the BFA ones) to determine whether the mix of academic and dance requirements is right for you. You will also need to assess whether the programs offer enough classes in the dance styles you're interested in and whether those classes will offer the level of challenge that you need to keep improving.

In general, most college dance programs place their main emphasis on modern dance, even though all students are required to take ballet. A handful of programs place their main focus on ballet. Then other programs have varying degrees of dual-emphasis programs, and another handful offer triple-emphasis programs in ballet, modern and jazz. The proof is not in their class offerings, but in the styles of dance that they showcase in their performances.

It is not too soon for you to start visiting college dance programs. I started taking my daughter to see out-of-state programs when she was in 9th grade. It really helps to visit the programs during the fall and winter/spring semesters so you can observe classes and hopefully attend their performances. By your junior year in high school, you can request to sample the college dance classes by taking some classes during your visit. Talk to as many dance majors as you can to see what they like and don't like about their programs.

I know about many dance programs, as my daughter was a student at four college dance programs, including two as a matriculated student. She recently gradated with her BFA in dance from a triple-emphasis program. She has attended summer intensives from coast-to-coast (including one that is also the summer session in a college dance program) and has met hundreds of other college dance majors. Instead of listing all the ones I know, I'm going to list the ones that many people will consider to be among the best. They include:

    Arizona State University      (asu.edu)

    Butler University                   (butler.edu)

    Florida State University    (dance.fsu.edu)

    Indiana University               (indiana.edu)

    Juilliard School                       (juilliard.edu)

    Point Park University                 (pointpark.edu)

    Southern Methodist University      (smu.edu)

    SUNY, Purchase                         (purchase.edu)

    Temple University                 (temple.edu)

    Texas Christian University      (dance.tcu.edu)

    University of Arizona               (arizona.edu)

    University of Kansas        (arts.ku.edu)

    University of Michigan           (umich.edu)

    University of Oklahoma          (ou.edu)

    University of South Florida        (usf.edu)

    University of Utah                    (utah.edu)

    University of the Arts               (uarts.edu)

    Happy hunting!

  4. there are many many schools with dance majors or dance specialisations in the theatre or performing arts major.  i think all the major universities in michigan have that as an option.  just find your state's colleges and universities (internet searches are wonderful things) and then look at their arts and letters or humanities departments to see what they have in dance.

  5. me and you are in the same situation i mostly came on this to see what other people replied cause i ran out of points to ask today if i knew that answer i would've told you but i am confused about that myself SORRY
