I am helping to manage a dance audition that we will have maybe in another 4 months or so. I need a little advice with starting it up, paperwork that is needed, the actual dance audition process, ect. If anyone who has this experience can help me out or knows a website that can help, please let me know. Thanks!

  1. i think it depends on how the audition is going to be run...

in my experience there are a couple of different types of audition processes...

    1. workshop: this style of audition is where the choreographer comes up with a combo to a song that best displays the type of dancing that is wanted. after the choreographer teaches the combo they teach it to the dancers that want to audition, after a specific amount of time (30 mins 45 mins) the group of auditionees run the combo over and over while the casting director and choreographer watch and look for who they like. the combo should reflect the style of dance that is going to be performed in the show and shouldn't be too long...maybe around 3 - 4 counts of 8 depending on how much you want to teach and how much time you have. the auditionees can also be broken up into groups to help narrow choices as well as help the casting director and choreograher watch everyone more attentivley.

    2. each person auditioning comes prepared with a solo that is a specific length. 30 secs - 1 min. the song choice depends on the type of production they are audition for. if this route is taken, the director should make it known of what type of show is being produced and what type of dancers they are looking for, ie if it's a broadway style show, jazz show, hip hop show, looking for male/female dancers trained in whichever disciplines of dance.

you can also combine the two types of auditions but it is probably best if you do that if the audition process occurs over a couple of days.

as for things you might be looking for in paperwork would be a resume and headshot of each dancer

    hopes this helps...
