Dance problem!! Help 10 Points!?

Question

Okay I am 15 years old and I am a singer and an actor. I am very good at both but the thing that kept me out of the school musical last year was my dancing. It isn't that I am not a good dancer it just takes me a long time to learn the moves. This is a real problem for an audition where you learn the moves one day and audition the very next day. I am really serious about performing and I dont want to have anything holding me back. So what can I do to improve the time it takes to learn new choreography?? Also I need to learn piano. I dont want to be a wiz at it I just need to be able mainly to read music. I am taking piano lessons but I am not learning much because we are going slowly to start off. What can I do to learn theory fairly quickly and work on reading music and sight singing as well??? Please please help!

I'm the exact same way with my dancing. It takes me forever to memorize the steps. Why not have a friend make up a dance, teach it to you, and see how fast you can learn it. Try having your friend make up a new dance for you every other day, hopefully you'll get better at picking things up faster!

i'm a dancer too but i don't seem to have that problem but if it helps you could try getting someone to write the dance down allowing you to learn the dance bit by bit. Try learning some of the moves, putting the music on and then doing the dance up to where you have learnt. Keep doing this until you have memorised that part and move on to the next. Hello !!!!!

I feel your pain !!!! This year was my first musical !!! We did "Oklahoma" !!!! Like your school we have only one night to learn two songs, Dances and a few lines. What I did was I asked for help. If I didn't catch something I asked around.

Dance:

At practice write the dance steps down. If you don't understand a move then ask. After the drama practice ask a friend of yours to go over the dances with you. If you can video tape the dance , and watch it over. If you don't do good on the dancing remember their is parts for singers and actors.

Music:

I would ask your teacher if you could move the pace up a Little. But don't rush it too much . It takes time to learn things. Practice playing every night. Also practice reading the notes. Have a friend quiz you. Ask a music teacher for extra help. Their is also plenty of books that could probably help you.

Sight reading:

I am also a Soprano in chorus and we have to do sight reading a lot. I would start off by humming the notes. Yet again notes are key. Then just start singing the music piece as you think it should sound. The music person may also play a few keys to get you started.

ohh i have like the same problem!! i can do the moves i just need time to practice them. if you have to learn the moves quickly just do them over and over and over. like when the teacher gives you time to practice you NEED TO ACUALLY PRACTICE. caus if you kinda just stand there and wacth or 'go over the moves in your head' then your doing nothing for yourself. you can just mark it but just be constantly going over the moves and practicing them. and if you ever do the combo in groups then dont watch the other groups go. practice and do the dance while ther doing it. it isnt considered rude at all beleve me. the teachers will admire and respect you for trying so hard and being dedicated to learning the steps. and if you have the combo overnight to practice it, then practice it. just run through it alot and you shoud get it down.

okay im 13 and it might be kinda weird taking advace from someone younger.but im in cheerleading and to try out we had to learn one dance a cheer the line dance and the fight song and try out the next day

(you probably dont know what those are)

but it was hard, so what we did is we got some girls to together that night and practiced alot! and if someone forgot something the other girls could help.

so what i would do is find someone that you know and get together with them after, and have that person help you.

it helped for me and im sure it will help for you.
