i love to dance. it isnt something i am forced to do. i do it for me. it is my life. but i have a character solo and the judges constantly tell me to use more emotion instead of expression. but i am choreographing my own solo for school talent show in the fall to Fall For You by secondhand serenade and when i do it in my room i feel so much emotion and everything becomes easier to do. its like im a totally different dancer. does anyone know how to bring that into my character solo? (its to Forget About The Boy...thouroughly modern millie)

cat said something last night on SYTYCD. it was like most people try to look like their teacher instead of being theirselves or something. idk.

anyway to help this????

PLEASE! 10 pts.

  1. see don't think tht u r just dancing.Even I am a dancer.Dancing is even much more.Just go into the depth of expressions. You will come out with emotions.

  2. i know this sounds silly but forget about who is watching you. If you can dance with emotion in your room than why can't you on stage? well i think its because your to busy thinking will they like me or will they hate me if i do it this way or just to shy. i know i feel that way all the time. just everytime you get on stage take a deep breath, pray and pretend your in your room with only your closet watching you. lol that sounds weird but trust me it works. but if it doesnt try thinking that people are watching you in your room ( im not talking about becoming paranoid im talking about acting). when you ask a group of people to pretend someones watching them from behind they all but on the same face, so pretend someones watching you! lol that sounds so weird but anyways it works for me!

may God bless you and everyone you love!

  3. Well you might want to try: Imagining of whatever a story or subject sung  about!?! Or even just think up your own story depending on what the song, lyrics or even what the music reminds you of !?! & make up your own little happy, sad or tragic story that'll last for the few minutes the music/song is on !! & just act it out using & or expressing emotions with it !! That'll give the performance more meaning to the onlookers I'll bet!?!. G/L~!!!     rRr

  4. If when you choreographed your solo you were able to feel emotion, perhaps recalling that and pulling those emotions to the surface would help.

Is the problem that your character solo is in a school production and thus choreographed by a teacher or such? If so, you will have to put worrying about doing it exactly as they want aside and get into the character's emotions/outlook.

    Good luck!

  5. When you dance in front of everyone, try pretending no one is there and try feeling free like when you're in your room. You are probably nervous and concentrating so much on what others will think of you and not messing up that you forget about showing emotions and just enjoying yourself.

  6. It sounds to me like you have performance anxiety.  Find someone you trust and tell them your problem.  You'll get more advice you can use.  If you feel like one of the judges is sympathetic ask them.  ( Make sure it's after the competition not before or during.)  Some will help competitors do a better job next time.
