hey guys! i am a dancer and dancing seriously is everything to me! i hope to be able to take my dancing somewhere eventually. i really want to try out for so you think you can dance in 2 years when i am 18. i am going to try out regardless, but i really would like to have a chance at excelling in the competition. i have a lot of improvements that i need to make. flexibility is something that i need to work on. i have been stretching intensly every day. i have already seen improvements. i can very comfortably sit in my left split with no trouble, my right is getting there, and in a center split im about two/three inches from the ground. i am reallly pushing myself because i want to see fast improvement. this comes with a great deal of pain! every morning i wake up soo sore, but i keep pushing myself anyways because i want this badly. what can i do to maybe not have so much pain with my stretching but also to see improvements? is this possible? also, something i have trouble with is like my arabesque. it is not very good. i think its my back that isnt flexible enough? when i realllyy push it, it hurts my back, like its pinching kind of? how can i improve this? sorry for rambling! check out my other questions because i need a lot of advice! thanks so much!

  1. dont overstretch! you have 2 years!y oull permenantly ruin your muscles if you overstretch. wen stretching your back lift up and then back. what kind of dancer are you lyrical? pointe? ballet? jazz?tap?

    work on technique too!

  2. Just be careful not to push yourself too far. Make sure to warm up before you stretch. I'm concerned about you doing the middle splits. It's so bad for your knees. If you're going to do it, make sure your knees are pointed up toward the ceiling. Other than that, just keep stretching every day! Good luck!

  3. Hi!

Okay I'm a dancer too! :D he he I'm fifteen, but i hope I can help you.. :D

Arabesque- It's not that you're not flexible enough in you're back, but you're back probably isn't strong enough. What I do to get my arabesque higher is...

Step 1. Put foot on a counter/chair, a flat surface that makes it easy to stand in arabesque comfortably.

Step 2. Stand in the arabesque position

Step 3. Lift you leg that is in arabesque, almost like a leg lift. This will build muscle in your back resulting in a better arabesque.

Also, if you want to improve you back flexibility, you should do back bends daily. Once your back bend is comfortable, start walking your hands in closer to you're feet. :D

    I hope this helped :D

  4. Stretching takes a lot of pain, but it might help if you take it slower. I'm working toward the same thing.
