Dancers Answer Here.?

Question

Its wierd, because I'm a dancer, and I do very well in classes and recitals and shows, with choreography, or choreographing.

But freestyling? Just dancing dancing? It feels kinda akward, like, I don't really know what to do. I can dance witth a big group like that though, I'm not clumsy or anything obviously but,

do any of you other dancers fell like that? Haha, I just think its funny.

YES! I feel the excact same way!

I feel like when I do freestyle, I just squirm around like somebody who can't dance at all trying to!

Oh geesh, same here. But on the opposing side, I am quite clumsy! Ha!

But yeah. I think it's because normally we're used to having every beat choreographed and when we don't have that, well sometimes our wiring goes a little bezerk :)

But I love it when you're at a school dance or something, and then an old song that you've done before comes on, and you can impress everyone with your sweet skills!

Yeah, I always feel like that, so when another music comes up, I dance moves from my exercises and join pieces of them together. I did that in my talent show, people said it was really good. And I did that in my exams, it reminded me of how many times I used to do this and I tried to dance my heart out. But I really agree I feel uncomfortable when doing that. But if you can make up your dance, make up one and most important, dance!

i feel exactly the same way!  i think it's because when there is set choreography people don't judge you in the same way they do when you just dance.

ur not alone, i cant freestyle 2 save my life!!

i think that 4 me its that i have been taking ballet all my life so i cant rly just let go of my posture and go crazy, but then agen i cant even do a hip-hop class without someone nearly tearing their eyes out..heheh...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Its just like that! i can dance perfect in recitals etc. bt when it comes to free style... i have no idea what to do! i really just dont dance when free style comes up!

Ok well there are two kinds of dance proformers actually three, the first one is the kind, who can follow choreography really well, but can't freestyle the second, is the kind who can freestyle like it's choreography but when it comes to up front steps they can't do it, and the last kind is the dancer that is good at both. My advice to you is for you to learn more individual moves. take cranking your head to the left 2 times, if you did that alone it'd look odd but if you got 25 people to do that at the same time, it would look Crazy amazing. And yes I used to feel like that but I put in ALOT of extra practice.

YES!  i dance with a competitive dance team

and we go to competitons and dance and do

great! and then, when im out with friends, i can

club dance i mean thats fine  

but one night at a wedding, we were all dancing

and i was like, no wth       i guess it was

because i was with my mom and other family friends..

it was just weird

with friends i can dance!!

and freestyling (by myself)

i cant do it...

i feel dumb

unless if im really hyper and just dont really care..

yes absolutely!!! your definitely not alone!!! like at school dances you just dont know how to dance cuz youve never rly danced with out chorography! rite? i feel tht same exact way!! i went to a school dance at my school and i felt so uncomfortable cuz i didnt know how to dance freely!!! so i just sat the whole time!! and when my studio has their halloween dance party i just sit out side or stand there like an idiot cuz i dont know what to do!!!!!!

im actually good with that making up my own moves and just having fun sometimes after school and on the weekend i just turn on the music and make a dance like i practiced it forever! but is someone just asked me to dance in front of a crowd im not okay but i did hula and the tech asked me to do a solo at the last minute and i did fine!

It's probally because were always told to do the exact move
