Dancing Rain to be the fittest for the Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week
William Haggas’s filly, Dancing Rain one of the brightest and leading contenders for the Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week. She has been working rigorously and has made her connections proud who acknowledged her
skill and capability for the upcoming race but commented:
"I don't think the filly wants it soft as the ground was too soft in Ireland but she enjoyed it at Epsom”, he said.
"We are hoping that it stays firm at Ascot in just over a week's time”.
The Irish filly out of Danehill Dancer and Rain Flower has raced five times this season winning the last race that she ran on 7th August with Kieren Fallon onboard. Before this she raced twice with J Murtagh, in July at the Curragh she came fifth
and in June she won the Epsom. However this time it will be Michael Tebbutt who has been reported to have said:
"(Rider) Michael Tebbutt was delighted with her. William had her right where he wanted her and it was a good education to come to the racecourse and have a look around”.
"The Ascot race is difficult to assess because we are not quite sure what's running, but she should have no problems against the older fillies, getting 7lb”.
The Epsom that she won on 3rd June was on a field of thirteen other horses. Dancing Rain over rode all those ahead of her then set steadily to gallop and allowed to go clear nine furlong out, came back to field four furlong out, ridden and quickened
clear again over two furlong out. She then pressed inside final furlong and kept finding clear ground for herself to finish the race off before the rest.
Then at the Dusseldorf on 7th August she broke well from her stall, opted for the lead, was able to set a solid pace more than a length clear, travelled well, geared up when urged towards the end of the final turn, ran on well in straight, was
clear soon and won the race comfortably.
Andreas Lowe’s Djumama was the runner up with P Schiergen’s Navarra Queen taking the third position in the race.
Dancing Rain has not raced in a while but the connections are quite confident about her being one of the most eligible candidates for the Qipco British Champions Fillies’ And Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
