Question:

Dancing at our wedding?

Well I've always dreamed of the first dance with my new husband and the father-daughter dance. I'm not a good dancer, I can slow dance, but not great! We are willing to do a fun dance for our first dance, but since we are both not great dancers and we don't have money to go to dance class.

We would love to do thriller as our first dance, I think that would be hillarious! and a lot of my friends and his friends know it, and we'll tell them to join in! What do you think?

How can we go about learning it without having any money to pay for the service?

  1. I think Thriller has been done too much. I dunno of any other funny ones. The best way to do it would be watching the music video and doing it along with it.

  2. Have you tried youtube?  You may be able to find some instructional dance videos.

  3. I saw a fantastic rendition of the thriller dance on you tube it was done by a wedding party....I would just watch it and memorize it like crazy!

  4. check out this site http://wedsongs.blogspot.com for more wedding songs.

It has ton of wedding songs which have videos/lyrics for you to choose from first dance,cake-cutting to march-in wedding songs.

  6. Thriller???  I think that you will regret such a choice in years to come.  So what if you cannot do a formal dance.  All you need do is to hold on to each other and sway about a little.  You could get fancy and step from side to side.  If you know how to waltz that is nice but totally unnecessary.  Don't make a joke of your wedding.  You won't want to show your grand children pictures of you in zombie mode.

  7. You can download the video and watch it a boat load of times until you get the moves down.

  8. My fiance' and I are doing the same thing for our first dance, we got the idea off of youtube. No one knows we are doing the funny dance. We are going to start off with a nice sweet traditional wedding song, then break into crazy dancing w/ baby got back, and then finish like nothing happened with the ending of the sweet song.

    Good Luck!

  9. Lol, we didn't have ANY dancing at our wedding (small brunch reception with a lot of older relatives), but if we had, I'm pretty sure we would have ended up doing a "goofy" dance.  It's actually something a lot of brides and grooms are doing nowadays.  If you go on You Tube, you'll find first dances to anything from "Baby Got Back" to techno to "Boot Scoot Boogie".

You can learn it by getting the original "Thriller" video on You Tube...I think they may also have a collection of Michael Jackson videos on DVD.  Just study the video, get some of your friends together a few times before the wedding and practice.

The movie "13 Going on 30" also has a part where they do the Thriller dance at a party.  Starts with just two people and then others join in.  May be good to look at to see the dance and get ideas.

  10. You can either ask your friends to teach you the thriller dance, rent free "teach me to dance" videos from the library, wing it (aka, teach yourselves), or skip it.
