Dandenong, Melbourne or Parramatta, Sydney?

Were moving to Australia in July and are still trying to choose which area to move to as my husband has family in both Dandenong Melbourne and Parramatta Sydney!

Which place is better for jobs, rental houses, public transport, safety, higher pay, higher living costs, proximity to CBD, schools etc...

Any answers will be greatly appreciated! We dont know where to move yet but we have done more research in the Parramatta area than we have for Dandenong.

Thanks!

  1. Dandenong and the Dandenong ranges are different places.

Dandenong is about half hour from capital of Vic which is Melbourne. Sydney is more expensive for rentals, don't know Parramatta but outlying suburbs of Sydney are very road congested and public transport is gross. I guess i would go for Dandenong which i feel fairly sure would have the cheapest rental and public transport to Melb (lots of jobs in the city) is very good.

  2. i haven't actually been to Dandenong,. but from what i can gather from the Dandenong rangers, it is far away from the CBD and near the mountains.  However, i think parramatta isn't too close to the CBD either even though it is the centre of Sydney geographically.  i don't live in sydney but have been there, the only thing i can remeber that it's close to Westmead childrens hospital, meaning it is a reasonably large suburb.  I think Sydney is a more expensive city to live in though, however, mebourne is getting more expensive as well.  And we have better traffic.

I wouldn't go by what i just said though.

    good Luck with the move.
