Question:

Danderous ruptured appendix?

My cousin had his appendix rupture on Wednesday. The doctor did not know it was ruptured until he removed it. His Liver & Kidneys are now shutting down from the infectious bacteria that spilled out when the rupture happened. I don't know much about this, but it seems pretty dangerous. Has this happened to any of you & what was the treatment, outcome, recovery, etc...? Any help is appreciated.

  1. Sounds like he has developed severe sepsis. Yes, it is very serious. Basically it's an infection of his entire body, so you can understand why this really is not a good thing. I wish your cousin and your family nothing but the best.

  2. Your cousin has now got peritonitis. Simply ' bacteria has invaded his body and is attacking his other organs. I have had peritonitis twice but for different reason..ruptured bowel. Was very sick the first -time and was 2 weeks in hosp. 2nd time my organs packed up and I was on a respirator for 11 days. Both times it was antibiotics that saved me. Yes your cousins very sick. But it was caught early so chances are great. I looked like **** but I made it so don't be shocked by the way he looks please.

Best of luck..I mean it xx

  3. My dad knows a guy who's appendix burst and he had to spend a long time in hospital; they kept having to clean out his abdominal cavity.

It can take a long time to recover from because, like you said, bacteria basically invades the surrounding tissue. Usually the treatment is antibiotics and supportive measures to compensate for the effects.
