Dane Reynolds eliminates Adriano de Souza in Round 2 of Quiksilver Pro France – 2011 ASP World Tour
The eighth stop of the eleven event 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, Quiksilver Pro France, continued with the adrenal-pumping action during the third heat of Round 2, which pitted USA’s Dane Reynolds against Brazil’s Adriano de
Souza in a battle for a Round 3 spot.
The head-to-head battle turned out to be quite intense but in the end it was Reynolds who managed to walk away with top honours, consequently securing his place in the third round. The failure to collect a successful result led to De Souza’s elimination
from the competition.
The 26-year-old Reynolds is currently competing in his first ASP World Tour event of the year. He had been unable to attend the previous stops of the elite tour due to one thing or another, but finally gave his fans something to cheer about as he stepped
on the French soil to begin his latest ASP World Tour campaign.
After missing out on victory in the first round, the American found himself fighting for life against De Souza in Round 2. The 24-year-old Brazilian was currently sitting in the top-five on the ASP World Tour Ranking table due to a series of outstanding
performances during the first half of the season. As the season progressed, he began to lose his rhythm and got eliminated quite early in several competitions. However, he had started to show signs of returning form during the previous two events and was expected
to make a strong impact at La Graviere to keep himself strong in the race for the ASP World Title.
As the battle between Reynolds and De Souza began, the shifting six-to-seven foot waves kept both the surfers at bay and prevented them from acquiring a good score during the first half of the 30-minute heat.
A little past the mid-way stage of the heat, Reynolds made a charge, locking a juicy wave to pull off a combination of spectacular tricks and post an 8.23 on the score-board. A few minutes later, he added another 5.83 points to his account, moving to a heat-total
of 14.06 points.
Despite looking so promising at the previous two events, De Souza once again failed to unleash his true potential during his Round 2 showdown against Reynolds and ended up conceding the Round 3 spot to his rival after finishing with a heat-total of 5.00
and 5.60 points. The lacklustre performance and unsuccessful result led to his elimination from the competition.
