Dane Reynolds prevails over Kolohe Andino to secure semi-final slot at Quiksilver Pro France
Dane Reynolds from America got the better of his fellow countryperson Kolohe Andino in the second quarter-final of Quiksilver Pro France, the latest stop on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour, which went down at La
Graviere in Hossegor, France, on Thursday, October 4, 2012.
The battle between the surfers belong to different generations was expected to be a real thriller, but it eventually turned out to be a walk in the park for Reynolds, allowing him to comfortably secure his place in the semi-finals.
The pulsing six foot waves on offer at the primary event site on the latest day of the competition was proving to be a boon and bane for the elite ASP surfers still alive in the contention for the event title.
After surviving the demanding conditions prevailing at La Graviere over the last few days, Reynolds and Andino found themselves pitted against each other in an all-American affair for the semi-final slot.
Reynolds, ASP World Championship Tour veteran, was competing as an event wildcard this time around and was determined to leave a lasting impression in his latest visit to France.
Californian talent Andino, on the other hand, had a lot to proof in his first ASP Dream Tour and registering a win over Reynolds was just the sort of thing that could earn him some serious respect among his colleagues.
As the battle for the semi-final spot got underway, Reynolds wasted absolutely no time to get down to business.
Locking a massive wave in the opening minutes of the heat, he pulled off a series of stunning manoeuvres to post a 9.10 on the score-board.
Keeping the momentum going, he managed to add an additional 6.10 points to his account, thus moving to a heat-total of 15.20 points.
Andino did not have the most memorable heat, struggling to get his hands on a couple of good waves despite a desperate search.
Earning a mere 0.37 and 0.90 off the only-two waves that he got hold off, the American young gun finished with a heat-total of 1.27 points, consequently conceding a comfortable to his rival.
