Dane Reynolds to remain absent from the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach
The sensational surfer from California, Dane Reynolds, will not be competing in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, which is to kick-off at Victoria’s Pristine Bell Beach in Australia on 19 April. However, he is expected to make a comeback to the competition scene
at Nike Lowers Pro that is scheduled to start on 3 May.
The 25-year-old Californian will be unable to compete at the second stop of the 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Title series because of an injury sustained while surfing Pupukea on the North Shore last year in December. Initially he
thought that the injury was not that serious and kept on competing in the contests. He also made his way into the semi-finals of the Billabong Pipeline Masters. Even though it was not an ‘Anterior Cruciate Ligament’ (ACL) tear, the
injury turned out to be more than just a minor one. Consequently, he had to undergo a surgery on 17January this year.
The creative surfer was projected to remain absent from the first stop of this year’s ASP world title series, but is expected to be 100 percent for the second stop. However, it turned out that his joint was not healing as quickly as he had anticipated.
On 12 April, Reynolds’ manager, Blair Marlin, made the announcement that everyone was dreading. He made an official statement and said, “Dane will not be attending Bells, but he is hoping his knee will be better by the time the PRIME event comes to Lowers
(Nike Lowers Pro) in May.”
The news came as a huge disappointment for the Californian’s fans and the ASP. His fans, as well as the fans of the sport, were looking forward to seeing him in action soon. Unfortunately, they will now have to wait a little longer to catch the exciting
athlete riding the waves.
Everyone is eager for the Long Beach-based surfer to make his return. He has managed to impress a large number of surfing-fans with his unimaginable progressive manoeuvres and cool approach to competitions. His ability to consistently combine spectacular
tricks allowed him to end up in the top-5 last year. This is his fourth year in the elite surfers’ category.
He managed to reach the third round in last years’ Rip Curl Pro Bell Beach. Failure to return to the event when it celebrates its’ golden anniversary will definitely come as a huge disappointment for the talented surfer.
Reynolds is expected be present at the third stop of the ASP season. 18 weeks would have passed by the time the third event kicks off and that would hopefully be more than sufficient time for the Californian to fully recover.
