Dane Tudor becomes first skier to land switch triple rodeo 1260 in Aspen
The Australia-born Dane Tudor landed a switch triple rodeo 1260 a week prior to the Winter X Games Aspen 2012, becoming the first freeskier to have landed the trick on Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado.
The 22-year-old skier posted a video of him executing the epic trick cleanly on the last jump in the Breckenridge public terrain park. The jump was not nearly as big as the one that was set up for the Winter X Games Ski Big Air competition, thus bringing
the possibility of landing the trick during the mega-event of winter action sports to light.
Tudor had failed to make a place for himself in the latest edition of Winter X Games and thus remained deprived of the opportunity to land the trick while facing other freeskiing heavy-weights who also had a triple in the arsenal, including America’s Bobby
Brown and Australia’s Russ Henshaw.
While Brown managed to walk away with the Ski Big Air gold medal at Winter X Games, he attained the honours without landing the highly-anticipated triple in any of his runs. The other freeskiers with a triple in their bag of tricks also remained shy of putting
the trick down, not quite sure if the air-time off the competition was going to be enough to complete rotations and land safely on their feet.
The inclusion of Tudor to the Winter X Ski Big Air field may have served to make the contest a completely different ball game as other skiers would have been compelled to unload their triples as well.
Currently residing in Rossland, B.C, Tudor has not been that active as far as competitions are concerned and was apparently concentrating on filming. However, he seems to be shifting his focus to competitions recently.
Talking about his progress in an interview with ESPN, the Australian-native said, “I did the Dew Tour, the Red Bull Cold Rush and the World Championships in Park City. I've been trying to get into the competition scene for a while. I finally qualified for
Dew Tour last year and this year I went in as a pre-qualified athlete, which was pretty awesome. I've been working on competing for a few years, so it's nice to make some headway in that area.”
With tricks such as switch triple rodeo 1260 in his arsenal, Tudor indeed has a good chance of making a solid impact in competitions and collecting coveted results.
