Danedream takes away the Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp from the St Leger winner and the last year’s ARC winner
The title winner for the Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp this year turned out to be P Schiergen’s Danedream who was being ridden by A Starke against fifteen other contestants struggling to win the race.
Starke said: "It was a dream for me just to ride in this race. I knew the filly could put up a great performance, but there was a lot of competition and good horses. In the last two furlongs she just gave me a great feeling and I was just dreaming. I don't
know what has happened. It's a dream come true”.
As is her name, such is what she achieved that day, according to her mount she has made his dream come true. She was racing midfield then rode and was headway two furlong out, she was leading when in the final furlong and quite very soon she was done finishing
the final furlong with ease. Danedream won from Shareta by five lengths.
Schiergen added: "This is my best moment in racing. I don't believe it - she was such an easy winner. It's fantastic and she is the best horse I have trained. It's a great moment. She is a small filly with a big, big heart and there's no better race to win”.
Under Thierry Jarnet, Shareta tracked the leaders, got challenged over three furlong out, ridden over two furlong out and kept on with the pace but had no chance of winning with the leader already striding into the final furlong far from reach. The runner
up was representing A De Royer-Dupre.
The third to finish the race was Ed Dunlop’s Snow Fairy with Frankie Dettori by holding up in midfield then pushing along over three furlong out, riding and then was headway over one furlong out. She did not lose grip of the speed in the final furlong thus
ended up with the third position.
There were three candidates in the race that were representing A P O’Brien with So You Think being fourth in the race with Seamie Heffernan, closing in and finishing right behind him was another A P O’Brien, St Nicholas Abbey with J P O’Brien. The third
O’Brien entry in the race was Treasure Beach on fourteenth ranking with C O’Donoghue onboard.
The most ‘looked upon’ entry in the race was the last year’s winner, Sir Michael Stuote’s Workforce for whom before the race there were extreme ground concerns which ultimately settled down but even then he was on mere twelfth stand with Ryan Moore for whom
this race was the biggest event after his recovery and comeback.
The other sad story in the race was the St Leger winner Masked Marvel finished at the horrid sixteenth count which actually was also the last one as the entire lineup itself was sixteen. They both failed miserably in the race and were a mock disappointment
for those watching and specially for those who had invested.
Danaddream hardly made any news before the race began and won the Qatar Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp this year while those who were whining over the ground conditions and had other issues to make news out of did not really do justice to the race
and to the chance provided to them.
