Danedream to run in King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Ascot
Danedream, P. Schiergen’s 4-year-old filly, is all set to make her first outing in England, as she gears up for the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, to be held at Royal Ascot on Saturday, July 21st.
The daughter of Lomitas has made two starts so far this season. She started off her 2012 campaign on a high note, winning the Grosser Preis Der Badischen Unternehmer at Baden-baden in Germany. The Group 2 event saw the filly taking keen hold early on.
She tracked the leaders brilliantly and subsequently quickened her pace to take a handsome lead a furlong before the wire. The 2-5 favourite stretched her advantage inside the final furlong and as a result, grabbed the first spot by ¾ a length.
After clinching a comprehensive victory, the Gestut Burg Eberstein & T Yoshida-owned failed to carry forward her good work, and completed the order of finish in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud at Saint-cloud last month.
Bred by Gestut Brummerhof, the bay filly was mighty impressive last season. She won three consecutive Group 1 races to make a great impression.
After clinching a classy win in the Grosser Preis Von Berlin, she perpetuated her good work to win the Longines Grosser Preis Von Baden and Qatar Priz De L’Arc De Triomphe respectively.
After proving her mettle at different venues, the filly is going to show her magic in England. On the Royal Ascot challenge, the handler said:
"We are coming over to Ascot for Saturday. Nothing went right for her at Saint-Cloud, they went very slow early on and that didn't suit. She prefers a strong gallop and that is usually what you get in England.”
"Everything has gone well since her last race. Soft ground would not bother her at all, she handles it very well indeed so if it was very soft that would not change anything," he added.
On the other hand, St Nicholas Abbey is heading the market for the 1m4f event, following an excellent triumph in the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup at the start of last month. Dunaden is another interesting candidate. The 6-year-old was runner-up behind
Sea Moon in the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot last month.
