Danger day comes to an end for Danny Lee at Mayakoba Golf Classic
It was undoubtedly a dangerous day for Danny Lee. When walking off the course, the golfer had six bogeys coupled with two birdies on the 12 holes he played on the day.
The shots he played provided him with an eight over place in the event.
On the other hand, Greg Owen, in the wake of eyeing his first PGA Tour victory was able to accommodate himself in the leading position.
The 40-year-old golfer was able to successfully birdie his last two out of three holes that he teed off.
With the help of his four-under-par 67, he was able to tie it for the first position with Will Claxton and Daniel Summerhays.
Along with this, another rising American golfer coming strong at Mayakoba is Chris Stroud.
The young golfer was able to score 66 in blistering fashion, despite the harsh weather conditions prevailing on the course.
Speaking to media, Owen said, "Tough conditions but I drove it in most of the fairways and just kept plugging away and took some chances. I played really well today".
It is important to mention here that Owen was able to deliver his career best performance back in 2006, at Bay Hill Invitational, where he led by one shot.
He further added, "I've made four out of five cuts and finished ninth at Pebble (Beach). It's getting back to how I used to play four or five years ago, and that feels nice".
On the other hand, other players listed and speculated as top contenders for the event are still battling it out for the top position.
Johnson Wagner, the winner of Sony Open in January, is still stuck on 70, with expectations of grabbing the championship going in vain. Similar is the situation with Greg Norman.
He might have shown excellent skills in designing the course for the event, but it is turning out to be a difficult spot for him to unveil his golfing potential.
Pundits are amazed that a player with up to 88 Professional wins to his career, Norman, has failed to perform as per their anticipations.
They believe that the upcoming competitions will definitely add greater excitement to the event as competition for the top position turns cutthroat.
