Question:

Dangers of sharing blood pressure stethoscopes?

At college, as we’re doing a fitness course, we have to share those manual blood pressure stethoscopes. Although we are provided with alcoholic wipes for the external ear pieces, if you look inside the hole of the ear pieces, you can see chunks of what appears to be wax. Is this normal, and does this pose any danger of adverse ear infections? Is it also possible for this substance to permanently stay plugged in your ears?

  1. your risks are minimal. Ear wax may be gross, but it is almost never infectious.
