Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda Team keen to hit Estoril circuit after his surgery – MotoGP Update
Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa is keen to hit the track on his RC212V, at the Estoril circuit in Portugal, on May 1, 2011. The Portuguese event will be the first time Pedrosa will be taking part in a Grand Prix, after his recent surgery.
Pedrosa is at second place on the World Championship points table, which is nine points apart from leader Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing.
Pedrosa, while speaking on the Estoril round, said, “I did what I had to do in these three weeks off and I look forward to getting back on the bike after this period, which has been good for me to undergo surgery and start rehabilitation.”
The Spanish rider availed the long gap between the second and third event of the MotoGP calendar and underwent a surgery, to get relief from his arm pump problem. The gap was created after the Japanese Grand Prix was postponed from April 24 to October 2.
Pedrosa added, “Last week I had the stitches removed, so everything is still very fresh and I don’t know how I will feel in Estoril, but I’m excited to see if everything went well and if I can put the issues aside once on the bike.”
The injury to his collar bone happened in a free practice session last October, at the Motegi circuit. Pedrosa immediately underwent a surgery to plate his collar bone and was forced to miss three consecutive races held in Japan, Malaysia and Australia.
After two weeks of his surgery, Pedrosa tried to race at Philip Island, but the pain conquered his strength and after two sessions it was clear that he has not recovered enough.
Pedrosa returned to the track to race in the final two rounds of the 2010 season. During the Estoril weekend, which was also the second last race of the season, he felt numbness and loss of sensation in his hand. The issue was the same problem he faced at
the season’s finals round of Valencia.
By mid-November, Pedrosa underwent a series of test and check-ups at the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona, followed by a surgery. Pedrosa was strictly prescribed to have a four-week rest for complete recovery to start his physiotherapy. Until January, the Spaniard
was not given any physical exercise until his doctors allowed it.
For the present event of Estoril, Pedrosa is focused to get the most out of the free practice session, prior to the event. Good weather can always be an advantage on race day, but Spain’s geographical location welcomes any unpredictable change in the weather.
The circuit has a lot of corners that open into straight ends, which require hard braking. It is very important for the rider to have a great traction and use the acceleration advantage of the Honda RC212V. With the confidence Pedrosa has in his ability,
anything can be expected on the circuit at Estoril.
