Dani Samuels all set to defend world title at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu – Athletics news
Dani Samuels, the 23-year-old Discuss thrower from Australia, who is a reigning world champion in her discipline, is all set to defend her title at the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Athletics to commence in Daegu, on August 27. Discuss throw is among
the disciplines which will mark the championships opening day in the last week of this month.
Just like athletes from around the world are putting in their best effort to get into some form that may help them overcome their rivals at the world championships, Samuels too has been into training programmes that has helped her acquire the build-up which
will definitely play a big role in pressurising her competitors in the big event.
Commenting upon how she is feeling for the big cup, the Australian said, “I am as confident as I can be, training has been going really well and after competing a few times in Europe so far I can feel and see improvements in my throwing. It’s fair to say
that I haven’t been throwing really big yet, but my technique is sound and I just need to really start pushing my limits.”
She was of the view that the fact that she was the reigning world champion had not put any pressure on her. She is well-aware of her ability and the potential of her rivals. Back in 2009, when Samuel emerged at the Berlin World championships, the young girl
was a university Discuss champion for marking a landing of 62.48m. By the time she claimed the prestigious title, she was perhaps the youngest athlete in her discipline to accomplish the feat. She bagged the 2009 World Championships title for observing a Personal
Best throw of 65.44m.
Dwelling on the time she had experienced two years ago, the bronze medal winner of the 2006 Commonwealth Games said, “Everything in the year of Berlin just went to plan. I spent about ten weeks overseas, similar to what I am this year really, and consistently
pushed my personal best. The competition experience I had at World University Games in Belgrade was ideal and I couldn’t have been more buoyant by my form.”
She said that it was imperative for an athlete to stay relaxed in the game and this was something which she had learnt during the course of time. Even during competitions, she would just let things happen and focus on feeling how time was going around. With
this level of confidence and a matchless form ahead of the Daegu event, Samuels certainly has bright chances of outshining her rivals in the event.
