Daniel Alfredsson expected to return against Carolina Hurricanes
The Ottawa Senators received some good news on Wednesday when captain Daniel Alfredsson announced that he would be able to return to the line-up when the Sens face the Carolina Hurricanes
on Thursday night.
Alfredsson left Monday night’s game against the Washington Capitals in the third period with a lower-body injury, and did not return. The right-winger has had some time to recover, and
he said that he would be ready to return in the Senators’ next game.
“I just felt a little soreness in one of my muscles, so it was just precautionary, nothing serious at all and I should be ready tomorrow again,” Alfredsson said.
He added that minor injury may have been the result of a shot he took to the back of his leg during Ottawa’s season opener against the Buffalo Sabres.
Alfredsson also discussed his team’s winless start to the 2010-11 NHL season, their worst start since 1994-95. Despite not having a win yet, the captain assured Senators fans that there
was nothing to worry about, and that everything was under control.
“It’s a tough way to start,” Alfredsson said, “but we’ve got to build on what we did Monday in Washington and continue in that direction.”
Despite losing in overtime to the Capitals, Alfredsson believes that the Senators played well and showed a strong effort against Washington and their offensive powerhouses.
“I felt the way we came back, having three games in four nights, and having that effort in Washington in a tough building to play in has given us a lot of encouragement going forward,”
he said.
The high-scoring Capitals gave the Senators a lot of hard work to deal with, but the Senators kept things close for most of the game. The fact that they only lost be a single goal proved
that they were able to keep pace with the Capitals.
After the game, Alfredsson held a meeting amongst the Senators’ players to discuss the game and determine how they could improve their play. In their first three games, the Senators have
only scored four goals. Their power play has also been struggling lately, despite the addition of defenceman Sergei Gonchar.
The Senators will face the Hurricanes on Thursday night at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. The game is slated to begin at 21:00.
