Daniel Alves cannot rule out leaving Barcelona
Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves, who is currently in contract negotiations with the club, has said he cannot rule out leaving the Spanish champions if the club does not offer him a satisfactory contract.
Alves, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2008, is contracted with the Catalans until 2012. The club has offered to extend the Brazilian's deal until 2015, but an agreement has yet to be reached.
"My goal is to fulfil my contract until 2012. If the club believes that I am still useful, I will stay longer," Alves told Spanish daily
El Mundo Deportivo about the negotiations.
The right-back has made 71 league appearances for Barcelona after spending six successful seasons at Sevilla, where he became one of the team's most popular players.
The free-kick specialist added that he could leave the Camp Nou if the negotiations fail to bear fruit.
"I moved from Sevilla to Barcelona, and could move from Barcelona to another side — I have no problem not being here. Obviously, I would love to stay here as long as possible, and I try to work hard every day to make this relationship last."
Big spenders Manchester City have been reported to be interested in signing the Brazilian international, but Alves said he believes the negotiations will result in him staying at Barcelona.
"I’m confident that we will agree, but we are still a bit distant from what I want. At the moment, we are having meeting, but it has not advanced and not on our part. Now there are differences. What I want is the value of my performances on the field."
Alves has featured in all of Barcelona's league games this season. On Saturday, 30 October, Pep Guardiola's team will host his former club Sevilla in La Liga.
