Last season Barcelona mostly suffered because of their defensive problems. First they lost their first-choice defender, Eric Abidal. However, he was well-replaced by Carles Puyol in the left-back role.

However, there is no doubt that Puyol’s age will not allow him to play for many years to come and he will soon be retiring from the game. Therefore, the new Barcelona coach, Tito Vilanova, has decided that he will lure at least one more defensive player
during the summer transfer window.
Even though Puyol is still not fit enough to perform in the first-team, Daniel Alves has expressed his happiness after knowing that his club captain is back in training.
Speaking during a post-training conference, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves said:
"I am very happy that Puyi is back, that's he's in good shape and he is recovering.”
Daniel Alves, himself, is recovering from a broken collarbone. Therefore, the two players will not be taking part in Barcelona’s pre-season friendly games. However, the fact that the two players are back in training is definitely good news for the fans.
