Daniel Alves says Barcelona are constantly improving
Barcelona defender Daniel Alves says that his side are constantly improving after they beat Getafe 3-1 in a La Liga match.
The sides met at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum on Sunday, 7 November in what proved to be an easy win for the visitors.
Barca took the lead through Lionel Messi when the FIFA World Player of the Year was played in by David Villa and netted from a tight angle in the 23rd minute.
2010 FIFA World Cup winner Villa then doubled the advantage when he collected the ball from Messi and scored after 35 minutes. Pedro Rodriguez then extended the lead after a defensive mix-up by Getafe.
However, the victory was soured when central defender Gerard Pique was sent off for handling the ball inside the area. Manu Del Moral then slotted home the resulting penalty.
Despite his side's failure to keep a clean sheet, right-back Alves said that he was pleased with the result and said the good performance in the match indicated that Barca have made progress after struggling in the early weeks of the season.
'We must keep adding points'
He told reporters that: “We have achieved an important victory and we must keep adding points. We will improve over time, and in this game we have created so much, and if we have been more accurate we could have won by more. However, we are happy.
“We do not play a championship over two matches, we play over the entire year. We have to learn to go game by game.”
The result means that Barca remain a point behind league leaders Real Madrid. The teams will face off in the El Clasico fixture on 28 November, and Barca will be hoping that they can keep up with Jose Mourinho’s undefeated Madrid side until then.
