Daniel Alves wants a new Barcelona deal
Barcelona risk losing right back Daniel Alves if he is not offered a new contract according to the player’s agent.
Joaquin Macanas suggested that his client could leave the club if he does not receive a lucrative new deal as a reward for the player’s performance for Barcelona over the past two seasons.
Alves joined the club 2008 from Seville in a deal worth approximately £30m, after add-ons. The player won the treble in his first season with the club and has been a regular first team player with Barcelona,
under manager Pep Guardiola.
Alves’ contract is not set to expire until 2012, but Macanas believes that the right back may move if he is not provided with an improved deal at the Nou Camp.
The player has lost his place as right back with Brazil after Inter Milan’s Maicon became the number one defender in the position.
However, Macanas was adamant that Alves was one of the best defenders in the game and that despite losing his place in the first team with Brazil he should not be undervalued by Barcelona.
"We only ask that Barca value him in reality for his work and development during these years. Dani is one of the best defenders in the world and the big clubs desire his services,” Macanas said.
Macanas also warned Barcelona that they would find it hard to replace the right back and that he already had a number of big clubs monitoring his situation.
Barcelona will be eager to tie the Brazilian down to a new contract, but they may wait until next year before offering the defender a deal.
Alves still has less than two years to run on his current deal and Guardiola will be eager to see the player earn a new contract, with the kind of performances that saw them win the treble in 2009.
