Daniel Brands destroys Dustin Brown; enters the final – IPP Open 2011 CH
Daniel Brands, German world No.137, made his way into the final of the IPP Open 2011 ousting his compatriot, Dustin Brown, World No.179, in a hard hitting three set match ending up Brands winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in an hour and 24
minutes hard indoor match on Saturday, 26th of November at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
Starting off with the match, Brown served for the match opener, however, fell short breaking down early in the set, 0-1. Brands followed and took advantage of the breakpoint, serving out his second consecutive win of the set, 2-0.
26-year-old, Brown continued with game three and finally rolled down his side of the scoreboard, 1-2, however, was unable to break back and level up.
Moving on, the two served out games of respective serves rolling down the scores with the same difference and no breakpoints. With scores at 5-4, Brands concluded the first set with a startling double game point win in game ten
to win, 6-4, and moved on to play set two.
Brown once again stepped up to open the set; however, his compatriot was way too strong for him to beat. Breaking his lower ranked rival early in the set, game one, 24-year-old world No.137 extended his lead from 1-0 to 2-0 before
Brown followed with a service winner in game three to cut the lead to 2-1.
Pulling back the lead, 26-year-old broke his compatriot in game four levelling the scores at 2-2. Equalling for the first time in the match, Brown led the set for the first time in the match as he served out game five turning down
the scoreboard, 3-2.
However, Brands covered up right away bagging a winner from his serve, 3-3, and stood to return again. Brown saved the match as he served out game seven, 4-3, broke in the eighth, 5-3, and finished up serving out game nine, 6-3,
to win the set and even up the match scores, 1-1.
Carrying on with the decider set, Brands took the opening serve turning down the scoreboard, 1-0, with a double game point win. Following the higher ranked 24-year-old, Brown won his first game of the set and levelled up at 1-1.
Striking first, Brands served out game three, 2-1, and broke his compatriot in the fourth to lead the set 3-1.
Extending his lead the 24-year-old served out game five, 4-1, before Brown won his second game of the set, 4-2. Unable to break his higher ranked compatriot, 26-year-old eventually lost the set, 6-3, and the match, however, did
give a strong fight till the end.
Making his way through the semis, Brands moves on to the final round of the IPP Open 2011 challenger now, as he faces Matthias Bachinger for the final showdown.
