Daniel Brands vs Karol Beck – Semi-final Preview: Eckental Challenger 2011
The 2011 Eckental Challenger has entered into the semi final stage. One of the two semi finals scheduled on November 5, 2011 will feature Daniel Brands (Germany) play against Karol Beck (Slovakia).
29-year old Beck who turned professional in 2001 could have an upper hand in the match against the 24-year old Brands, who turned professional in 2005 with a current world ranking of 85.
Both players have lost fourteen games on carpet courts but the Slovakian has won thirty-five games while the German has won twenty-five.
This match would be the third meeting between the two players on a tennis court. In their last meetings, both won a match each to take their personal score one game each.
They first played a match against each other at the 2009 Intersport Heilbronn Open where Beck defeated Brands 6-2, 6-3. The second match they played was at the qualification rounds of the 2010 Swiss Indoors, which Brands won 6-2,
6-1.
In terms of head-to-head win/loss ratios of both the players, Beck, ranked at the 100th place in the world, has won more games than Brands in his career. Beck has won 63 matches and lost 107. Brands, on the other hand,
has won 22 matches and lost 40.
Looking at their win/loss ratio in the ATP circuit, Beck has won 179 matches and lost 90. Brands has won 112 games in his ATP career while lost 80.
Beck has won ten ATP Challenger titles where he won his last Challenger title at the 2011 Open Castilla y Leon held in August 2011. He defeated Gregoire Burquier in the finals. World number 147 Brands, has won four ATP Challenger
titles in his career. His last Challenger title win came at the 2011 Oberstaufen Cup in Germany, where he defeated compatriot Andreas Beck in the finals.
Although Brands has won less matches than Krawietz it will be Brands having slightly more experience while playing the semi finals of the 2011 Eckental Challenger. Brands has won the 2009 Eckental Challenger title when he defeated
Dustin Brown (Jamiaca).
Entering into the semi finals, Brands would have a home ground advantage against Beck. The Slovakian would have to make a strong start in the match because Brands would be motivated to bring his best game.
The German should not be overconfident because his lack of experience on the tennis courts might be a negative factor. He may become too confident in the early goings of the match and Beck can make a strong recovery to take a dominating
lead into the match.
What Brands should give special attention to are his service games. He may get a counter attack by Beck but the German can take points by his serves. Brands would have some difficulty in breaking Beck’s serves for the Slovakian
has scored 1,018 aces in his career while Brands has delivered a total of 521 aces.
Brands would be indeed motivated to win the semi finals in Germany and clinch his second Eckental Challenger title but Beck would also want to take home his first title in Germany.
