Daniel Brooks set for bigger challenges on the European Tour
Daniel Brooks of England is relishing the opportunity to play his rookie season on the European Tour, after he secured the 21st and the final card through the European Challenge Tour Rankings.
The Englishman made 22 starts in the 2012 Challenge Tour season and recorded seven-top 20 finishes. His best performance came at the Kärnten Golf Open presented by Mazda, when he finished second on the leaderboard.
Throughout the 2012 season, Brooks kept on playing tournaments without taking many breaks. When asked about the reason behind his busy schedule, he replied by saying that it was his job to compete regularly, in a bid to secure his European Tour card.
The Essex native joined the European Challenge Tour in 2010 and finished 61st in the Rankings. The very next season witnessed him taking the 47th position in the money list.
The 25-year-old kept on working hard and finally qualified for the bigger stage in 2012. Talking to the Challenge Tour’s official website, he said that his determination and confidence provided him with the opportunity to contend against some of the best
player in the world.
“Gradually every year has been better and better for me,” he said. “Obviously I have just been improving so I’ll see where that takes me now. It is hard work but you mature and you seem to get better at grinding as you get older. You don’t give up as much,
you keep plugging away”.
Brooks participated in the European Tour’s season-opener The Nelson Mandela Championship presented by ISPS Handa, and finished tied for the 103rd position on the leaderboard.
The tournament was shortened to two rounds, after the inclement weather forced the game to suspend several times during the tournament week.
He now plans to make a strong start to his 2013 campaign, in a bid to secure more starts in on the tour.
“You just need to get off to a good start, especially in my category where you don’t get many events. If you come through the Qualifying School or the second half of the Challenge Tour Rankings, you have to hit the ground running, so hopefully I can do that,”
he said.
