Daniel Chopra of Sweden moves to the top at Iskandar Johor Open through halfway mark
Swede Daniel Chopra, who started off the day swinging for the remaining four holes from the rain-swept first round, carded a stunning six-under, 65 on the second day to offset Joost Luiten’s overnight lead in the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia. Chopra pulled
in two birdies for the remaining first round and carded another seven birdies on the second day, dropping just one shot at par-four, 7th.
"It was an early start for me this morning. I had a good feel to finish my first round with a few birdies and I made another good putt for birdie on my first hole this morning, which got my second round off to the perfect start," Chopra said.
Chopra, who has been playing on the European Tour for the last almost 15 years, and has won twice on the Challenge Tour, has strangely for some reason, has not won a single title on the European Tour as yet. Chopra has also won twice on the PGA Tour but
is still in search for his maiden victory on his home tour.
Chopra pulled in a round of seven-under, 64 on the first day, shy of just one stroke to the leader Luiten. The 37-year-old argued that his drive shots require some work but he was fairly satisfied with his putting.
"My iron play needs a little bit more work on the driving range this afternoon but if I can get that sorted out and get some rhythm with that, then hopefully I should be in for a good weekend.”
Luiten, the overnight leader, had taken the shot for his first hole of the day that the round was delayed as the rain and thunder returned to the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club.
Scotland’s Jamie McLeary also pulled in impressive round of 66 on the second day so far, and although he has to complete the last of the two holes, he is now poised at the second spot on the leaderboard, followed by another Swede Michael Jonzon with his
round of seven-under through the 17 holes.
Bangladesh’s Siddikur, who started off from the back nine first, carded another low of 67 on the second day and has now soared on the leaderboard to stay in contention.
