Daniel Chopra remains in contention at the Thailand Golf Championship
Daniel Chopra added another 67 to his scorecard, on day two of the Thailand Golf Championship, to remain in contention for the top spot on the leaderboard.
Entering the last two rounds on the weekend, he held a 10-under par overall score, four strokes behind the pace set by Charl Schwartzel.
The tournament is being played at the Amata Spring Country Club, and is the second last tournament on the Asian Tour roster.
In 2010, Chopra missed the cut in 19 of the 28 starts that he made on the PGA Tour and lost his card for the 2011 season.
As a result, he returned to the Nationwide Tour and secured his PGA Tour card, thanks chiefly to his victory at the Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae.
This year too, he failed to impress his fans, having missed the cut in 15 of the 21 events that he played on the PGA Tour.
After failing to qualify for the 2013 PGA Tour season through the qualifying school, the Swede decided to return to the Asian Tour, where he appears to be making a strong comeback in Bangkok.
He marked a strong start to his campaign in Thailand by carding a bogey-free five-under par 67 on day one.
The second round witnessed him maintain consistency in his game, as he carded six birdies against a lone bogey, to take the third position on the leaderboard.
“I've been playing well. I've been playing beautifully the last two, three months. So if anything, my putter had not been really producing the way it normally does, and these first two days I guess coming back to Asia brings out the best in my putter. That's
really the only major difference,” he said.
“I made one birdie on the last three holes, so it was good. It just throws I guess your nerves out a little bit, because you get a little bit more on edge, like when you're starting a round all over again, especially on such a short run.,” added the 38-year-old,
who won his maiden Asian Tour title at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters in 2001.
