Daniel Chopra starts well at the Thailand Golf Championship
Sweden’s Daniel Chopra stunned the spectators in the first round of the Thailand Golf Championship, as he shot a massive five-under par 67 to take the share of the third position, on Thursday, December 6, 2012.
Chopra was not expected to display such a refined form on day one of the second last Asian Tour event of the season, as the field is packed with top-notch players from different parts of the world.
Despite being underrated, the Swede did much better than most of the big names competing against each other at the Amata Spring Country Club.
He opened his round with two back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. Chopra then parred each of the next six holes, prior to adding another shot to his scorecard on the ninth hole.
On the back nine, the 38-year-old maintained consistency in his game, as he reeled off two straight birdies on the 10th and the 11th hole. He then parred each of the remaining holes, brining his overall score to a 67.
At the end of the day, Chopra seemed really pleased with his performance, as he appeared to have regained his form in Thailand.
Last year, he won the Nationwide Tour’s Fresh Express Classic at TPC Stonebrae, which helped him secure his card for the 2012 PGA Tour season.
However, the Stockholm resident failed to maintain his form and missed the cut in 15 of the 21 starts that he made on the PGA Tour.
This week, he certainly has a good chance to revive his form, with a strong display of the game at the Amata Spring Country Club.
“I putted beautifully today. Even the putts that didn't go in, I had a whole bunch that hit the edge of the hole” he said. “So it was beautiful. I love coming back and putting on these greens in Asia. I feel comfortable on them and they are easy for me to read. Yeah, I feel good out there, especially on the greens”.
He added, “Just do exactly what I did today for two more days, that's it. The rough is really thick. When you do miss, make sure that you get lucky and you get didn't lies in the rough”.
