Daniel Chopra takes clubhouse lead at the Iskandar Johor Open
Daniel Chopra of Sweden fired a six-under par 66, in the second round of the Iskandar Johor Open, to take the clubhouse lead, prior to the inclement weather forced the game to be suspended on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
The tournament is being played at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, and is the last event on the 2012 Asian Tour roster.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Chopra has been trying to remain in contention. He marked a decent start to his campaign in Malaysia, by carding a four-under par 68 in the opening round.
Entering the second round, he was trailing the leader David Lipsky by five strokes. While Lipsky struggled with his game in round two, the Swede made a strong charge on the leaderboard, by adding six birdies to his scorecard.
Right after finishing his round, he also watched the other players returning to the clubhouse, after the inclement weather forced the game to be suspended.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in finishing his second round before the suspension, which will now allow him to take some rest before the start of the third round.
“I’m very lucky to be able to putt out on the last. I’ll get another afternoon off and watch it rain I guess,” he said. “It was almost similar on the first day where we were the last group to finish. I was on the good side of the draw this time but I’ve
been on the bad side before. It all evens out but it is definitely an advantage”.
He also said that it will be difficult for the players to complete their four rounds in the tournament. Therefore, the officials may decide to shorten the event to 54 holes.
“I don’t think we will be able to finish 36 more holes with this sort of weather. I guess the odds are on and we probably have 18 more holes to go,” he said.
The overnight leader Lipsky, in the meantime, carded a one-over par score through 15 holes, to take the share of the second position on the leaderboard.
