Daniel Dhers remains the highlight of BMX Masters 2011
After an action-packed weekend full of extraordinary performances by some of the most talented BMX riders from all across the globe at Colognes Jugendpark in Germany, BMX Masters 2011 wrapped up on Sunday, July 10.
X Games Gold medallist from Venezuela, Daniel Dhers, remained the most successful rider during the weekend, winning both Pro Park-Contest and Spine-Ramp. France’s Matthias Dandois clinched top honours in the Pro Flatland Final, while America’s James Foster
emerged triumphant in Pro Dirt Final.
BMX Masters is considered amongst the most prestigious BMX events and attracts riders from all across the world to participate and show off their skills. The current edition of the event was no different, with over 300 riders from 38 nations converging to
Germany for the event that went from July 8th-10th.
A total of 14,000 fans were in attendance at the Colognes Jugendpark to witness both amateur and professional BMX riders show off their skills in various disciplines and compete for top honours.
The Pro Spine-Ramp Final featured some amazing runs, but the show was stolen by Dhers. A clean 720 bar-spin over the spine by the Venezuelan sent the crowd in awe and compelled the judges to give him the winning score.
A 540-Whip allowed America’s Brett Banasiewicz to earn runner-up place, while his compatriot, Pat Casey, rounded out the podium.
The 26-year-old Dhers showcased his exceptional BMX skills in the Pro Park-Contest as well and walked away with top honours. Czech Republic’s Michael Beran rode well as well and secured the runner-up position, while America’s Rob Armour managed to clinch
third position.
“Good weekend today, pulled double duty at park and mini with firsts! Thanks to everybody at the BMXMasters,” read the twitter update on Dhers’ account.
He also asked the organisers of the event if there was going to be an opportunity to go for an overall title event next year, something that the organisers will definitely look into in order to take the level of the competition to an entirely new level in
all disciplines.
America’s Foster remained the highlight of the Dirt Final on Saturday. His winning run, which comprised of a triple-whip, followed by a double back-flip made the crowd go wild and the winning score given to him by the judges hardly came as a surprise.
Casey clinched the second position, while the third position was secured by France’s Jean Baptiste Peytavit.
France’s Dandois stole the spotlight in the Pro Flatland Final, throwing down an amazing run to prevail in the contest. Japan’s Moto Sasaki finished in second place, while Czech Republic’s Domink Nekolny rounded out the third position.
The weekend delivered a heavy dose of adrenaline-pumping action and definitely lived up to the expectations of the fans.
