Daniel Dias clinches Men’s 50m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Daniel Dias of Brazil clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m freestyle in S5 category on day one of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
The Brazilian swimmer stayed in a prominent lead over his opponents throughout the race and appeared on the finishing blockade for gold medal. With his immaculate pace and unrelenting efforts, Dias faced no difficulty in securing gold medal of the event.
Dias continued his nerve-wrecking form throughout the event and earned his way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal with an effort of 32.05 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Sebastian Rodriguez of Spain, who stayed 1.39 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 33.44 seconds.
Rodriguez was chased by Roy Perkins of USA, who stayed 0.25 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by reporting a time of 33.69 seconds.
The third fastest swimmer was traced by Dmytro Kryzhanovskyy of Ukraine, who remained one and a half body length behind and tapped the wall for fourth position by submitting a time of 34.97 seconds.
The Ukrainian swimmer was chased by Clodoaldo Silva of Brazil, who remained 0.02 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall for fourth position with a timing of 34.99 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Anthony Stephens of Great Britain, who stayed 0.75 seconds slower and completed his race in a time of 35.74 seconds.
The British swimmer was followed by Thanh Tung Vo of Vietnam, who remained just one stroke slower from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 36.05 seconds for seventh position.
Last position of the race was obtained by Andrew Mullen of Great Britain, who failed to surpass any of his competitors in the single lap freestyle event and settled on the finishing end as eighth best finisher with an effort of 38.08 seconds.
In addition, Dias received huge appreciation from the crowd and was happy after securing top spot on the podium.
